2Chronicles 20:1 It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab and the children of Ammon and with them others beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

2Chronicles 20:2-5 Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There comes a great multitude against you from beyond the sea on this side Syria and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi. And Jehoshaphat feared and set himself to seek the Lord and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the Lord, even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord. And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court,

2Chronicles 20:6 And said, O Lord God of our fathers, are not you God in heaven? and don't you rule not over all the kingdoms of the nations? and in your hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand you?.
Who is in control?
2Chronicles 20:7 Are not you our God, who did drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and gave it to the seed of Abraham your friend for ever?
James 2:23.
2Chronicles 20:8,9 And they dwelt therein and have built you a sanctuary therein for your name, saying, If when evil comes upon us, as the sword, judgment or pestilence or famine, we stand before this house and in your presence, for your name is in this house and we cry unto you in our affliction, because you hear and help.

2Chronicles 20:10-13 And now, behold, the children of Ammon, Moab and mount Seir.(mount Seir was a mountain range synonymous with the Edomites:.Genesis 36:8,9), whom you would not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and destroyed them not.(they who were Jacob and Esau/Edom, all were part of the plan of God). Behold, I say, see how they now come to reward us by casting us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit. O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us, neither do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon you. And all Judah stood before the Lord, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

2Chronicles 20:14 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the Lord in the midst of the congregation;

2Chronicles 20:15 And he said, Hearken you, all Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem and you king Jehoshaphat, Thus says the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God's.
2Chronicles 17:10.
2Chronicles 20:16 Tomorrow go you down against them, behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz and you shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

2Chronicles 20:17.You do not need to fight in this. Set yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord with you.(2Chronicles 17:10), O Judah and Jerusalem. Fear not, nor be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them. The Lord is with you.

2Chronicles 20:18,19 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the Lord, worshipping the Lord. And the Levites who were of the children of the Kohathites.(Exodus 6:16-18; Numbers 3:17).and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

2Chronicles 20:20 And they rose early in the morning and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, Believe in the Lord your God so shall you be established. Believe his prophets, so shall you prosper.

2Chronicles 20:21-23 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord and that should praise the beauty of holiness as they went out before the army and to say, Praise the Lord, for his mercy endures forever. And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab and mount Seir, which were come against Judah and they were smitten. For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.
Comprised from.JFB Commentary: some think that this was done by angels in human form, however others entertain the probable opinion that, in the camp of this vast.horde, composed of different tribes, jealousies and animosities had sprung up, which led to widespread.dissensions and fierce.feuds in which they drew the sword against each other, the consequence.being that as the mutual.strife.commenced when the Hebrew.procession set out from Jerusalem, the work of destruction was completed before Jehoshaphat and his people arrived at the battlefield. Easy it is for God to influence man to employ their own passions in defeating the machinations they have devised for the overthrow of others.
2Chronicles 20:24 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude and behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the Earth and none escaped.

2Chronicles 20:25-28 And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much. And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah, for there they blessed the Lord, therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah.(a place close to Engedi on the western shore of the Dead Sea. The vineyards of Engedi were celebrated in Solomon's time. It is the modern Ain Jidy. The fountain from which it derives its name rises on the mountain side about 600 feet above the sea and in its rapid descent spreads luxuriance all around it), unto this day. Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy, for the Lord had made them to rejoice over their enemies. And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the Lord.

2Chronicles 20:29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries when they had heard that the Lord fought against the enemies of Israel.

2Chronicles 20:30 So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for his God gave him rest round about.

2Chronicles 20:31,32 And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah. He was thirty and five years old when he began to reign and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. And he walked in the way of Asa his father and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the Lord.

2Chronicles 20:33 Howbeit the high places were not taken away, for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
They didn't yet have the depth of spiritualiy their forefathers had.
2Chronicles 20:34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book.(?).of Jehu.(a book evident at this ancient time, but now maybe totally lost).the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.

2Chronicles 20:35-37 And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly.(not a wise move on the part of Jehoshaphat; he was a Godly man and Ahaziah was wicked). And he joined himself with him to make ships that would be able to go to Tarshish.(ships capable of a long voyage and carrying many goods of much weight).and they made the ships in Eziongeber. Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because you have joined yourself with Ahaziah, the Lord has broken your works. And the ships were broken in such a manner that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
1Kings 22:48,49.
2Chronicles 21:1,2 Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead. And he had brethren, the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah and Jehiel and Zechariah and Azariah and Michael and Shephatiah. All these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.
2Chronicles 21:1,2 Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead. And he had brethren, the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah and Jehiel and Zechariah.(not the closely spelt 'Zedekiah' a king of Judah and not king 'Zachariah' a king of Israel, but Jehoshaphat's 3rd son who was slain along with his siblings by their brother, next verse).and Azariah.(translators weren't careful; in the original the name of this  brother 'Azariah' was Azariahu).and Michael and Shephatiah. All these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

Error in that translators again weren't careful, as the only king of ancient.Israel.named 'Jehoshaphat' was Ahaziah, who had the name of Jehoshaphat as a second name. Consequently this verse is talking about Jehoshaphat the king of.Judah. The translators here were incompetent, in that all they had to do was read the context of the previous two chapters.

2Chronicles 21:3 And their father gave them great gifts of silver and of gold and of precious things, with fenced cities in Judah, but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram because he was the firstborn.

2Chronicles 21:4 Now when Jehoram.(this Jehoram of the nation of Judah).was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself.(thought he waa in a strong position; felt he was doing pretty good and was time to get rid of all those he didn't care for).and slew all his brethren with the sword and divers also of the princes of Israel.
He viewed them as a threat to his reign over Judah. Back then Judah and Israel were fighting with each other. Satan has been pitting people against each other since the beginning and right up to today. History is such a mess of egos and conflict. Thank the true God of all good creation that wars are now finished and the long looked for kingdom of God begins its reign on Earth. And you're here and in all this! Wow! What a time to be here. The time of the changeover from bad to good. It's a first and a permanent first, since sentient life has been here:.Isaiah 2:4 "And he shall judge among the nations and shall rebuke many people and they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruninghooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more."
2Chronicles 21:5 Jehoram.(this Jehoram was of the nation of Israel).was thirty and two years old when he began to reign and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

2Chronicles 21:6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab, for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the Lord.
2Chronicles 21:6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel.(Jehoram/Joram was a king of Judah, but followed the evil ways of Israel), like as did the house of Ahab, for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife.(her name was Athaliah and she was one evil bitch).and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the Lord.
2Chronicles 21:7,8, Howbeit the Lord would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever. In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah and made themselves a king.
2Chronicles 21:7,8,.Howbeit the Lord would not destroy the house of David.(meaning his progeny), because of the covenant.(1Samuel 16:1-13; 2Samuel 7:16).that he had made with David and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever. In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah and made themselves a king.
2Chronicles 21:9 Then Jehoram went forth with his princes and all his chariots with him and he rose up by night and smote the Edomites which compassed him in and the captains of the chariots.

2Chronicles 21:10 So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. The same time also did Libnah revolt from under his hand, because he had forsaken the Lord God of his fathers.
2Chronicles 21:10 So the Edomites revolted.(in circa.B.C.E. 892).from under the hand of Judah unto this day. The same time also did Libnah.(a Canaanite city conquered by Joshua {passed on over 500 years before in B.C.E. 1426}).revolt from under his hand.(this revolt by the folks in Libnah against the nation of Judah under egotisticalJehoram was, like all revolts, for their freeness from a despotic ruler), because he.(Jehoram).had forsaken the Lord God of his fathers.

Follow the spiritual path of love and things go well. Don't follow it and things turn against a person.

2Chronicles 21:11.Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication and compelled Judah thereto.

2Chronicles 21:12-15 And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus says the Lord God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah, But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like to the whoredoms of the house of Ahab and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father's house, which were better than thyself. Behold, with a great plague will the Lord smite thy people and thy children and thy wives and all thy goods. And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.

2Chronicles 21:16.Moreover God stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines and of the Arabians.(Genesis 15:19-21), that were near the Ethiopians.(Genesis 10:6).

2Chronicles 21:17 And they came up into Judah and brake into it and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house and his sons also and his wives, so that there was never a son left him, save.(except).Jehoahaz.(this.Jehoahaz's name became Ahaziah when he was made king of Judah; this was not the Jehoahaz who was king of Israel some 40 years later), the youngest of his sons.

2Chronicles 21:18,19 And after all this the Lord smote him.(Jehoram/Joram king of Judah).in his bowels with an incurable disease. And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness. So he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.
Adam Clarke's Commentary:."His people made no burning of aromatic woods for him, as they had done for his forefathers".(2Chronicles 16:14) which would indicate a proper burial:.2Chronicles 24:16.
2Chronicles 21:20 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years and departed without being desired.(the people cared little for this king). Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.(why not?).
