John 13:1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Emmanuel knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.

John 13:2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him.
Why was Judas heart susceptible to the devil? He was greedy and dishonest:.John 12:4-6.
John 13:3 Emmanuel knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he was come from God and went again to God;

John 13:4 He rose from supper and laid aside his garments and took a towel and girded himself.

John 13:5 After that he poured water into a bason and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

John 13:6-9 Then came he to Simon Peter and Peter said unto him Lord, do you wash my feet? Emmanuel answered and said unto him, What I do you know not now, but you shall know hereafter. Peter said unto him, You shall never wash my feet. Emmanuel answered him, If I wash you not, you have no part with me. Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

John 13:10 Emmanuel said to him, He that is washed.(speaking of the spirit *).needs not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit and you are clean, but not all.

John 13:11 For he knew who should betray him.(speaking of Judas Iscariot {John 12:4-6} one of his disciples); therefore said he, You are not all clean.

John 13:12 So after he had washed their feet and had taken his garments and was set down again, he said unto them, Know you what I have done to you?

John 13:13 You call me Master and Lord. And you say well, for so I am.

John 13:14 If I then, your Lord and Master have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.
That is be willing to be of service to others even in menial ways.
John 13:15 For I have given you an example.(1Timothy 6:13; the example here in the above verse, being one of humility), that you should do as I have done.(word done, here is to 'to be the authors of', 'the cause').to you.

John 13:16,17 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord, neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If you know these things, happy are you if you do them.

John 13:18 I speak not of you all. I know whom I have chosen. But that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.
All scripture is being fulfilled because the one and only true God of all creation knows the minds of all and can see what their thoughts produce:.1John 3:20.

John 13:18 I speak not of you all. I know whom I have chosen. But that the scripture.(Psalms 41:9; Psalms 109:3-8,16-18).may be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.

Judas (verse 11 above) wasn't compelled to be the one to betray Emmanuel. Lesson is, Judas gave in to the negative ways of the ordinary consciousness mass mind influence all of us are subject to, rather than follow higher consciousness ways of love that he was well aware of, having been with Emmanuel for approximately three years already.

One can tell if he or she is selfish if the concern for self isn't equal to the concern for another:.Jeremiah 5:27. We can measure our individual selfishnesses by noting how often we place each of ourselves within the thought framework of, 'What's in it FOR ME?'

John 13:19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, you may believe that I am he.

John 13:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receives whomsoever I send receives me and he that receives me receives him that sent me.

John 13:21 When Emmanuel had thus said, he was troubled in spirit and testified and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

John 13:22 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.

John 13:23 Now there was leaning on Emmanuel's bosom one of his disciples, whom Emmanuel loved.
This was the John who wrote the book of John and the epistles of John and the book of Revelation.
John 13:24,25 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake. He who leaned over to put his head on Emmanuel's chest.(this was John).said unto him, who is it?

John 13:26 Emmanuel answered, He it is to whom I shall give a sop when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.

John 13:27 And after the sop, Satan entered into him. Then said Emmanuel unto him, That you do, do quickly.

John 13:28,29 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him. For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag.(he was the treasurer for the group of disciples:.John 12:6), that Emmanuel had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast or that he should give something to the poor.

John 13:30 He then having received the sop went immediately out and it was night.

John 13:31 Therefore, when he was gone out Emmanuel said, Now is the Son of man glorified and God is glorified in him.

John 13:32 If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself and shall straightway glorify him.
After His crucifixion and resurrection, Emmanuel ascended to the Father who was thankful for the work He finished on Earth:.Acts 7:56; Daniel 7:14.
John 13:33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You shall seek me and as I said unto those of the tribe of Judah, Whither I go, you cannot come, so now I say to you.

John 13:34 A new commandment.(*).I give unto you, That you love one another. As I have loved you, that you also love one another.

John 13:35 By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one to another.
They'll know because they'll see love, which they probably hadn't experienced before.

Matthew 22:36-40. Love is your light:.Luke 8:16; John 7:3,4; 1Corinthians 10:11.

John 13:36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, where are you going? Emmanuel answered him, Where I go, you can not follow me now, but you shall follow me afterwards.

John 13:37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow you now? I will lay down my life for your sake.

John 13:38 Emmanuel answered him, Are you sure you mean that you will lay down your life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto you, The cock shall not crow, till you have denied me thrice.
This is why God must try us, so we can know about us what God knows, so we can learn to improve. Peter figured he was solid in love for Christ, but he wasn't. Peter was a brash individual with an unending.curiosity and had a good heart. Once the Holy Spirit was given.(Acts 2:38).Peter was on his way to becoming mature in spirituality.1John 2:12-14.
